Early-season lychee orchards in Ha Dong are heavy with rosy-red fruit as farmers bustle through the harvest, bringing joy, prosperity, and hopes for a better livelihood.
In 2026, lychee production in Ha Dong is estimated at around 14,000 tons.Ha Dong’s early-season lychees are known for their attractive appearance, naturally sweet flavor, and lack of bitterness. The fruit is consumed domestically and exported to markets such as China, Japan, and the United States.Despite lower output this year, early-season lychees in Ha Dong have maintained high and stable prices since the beginning of the harvest season, ranging from VND 35,000 to 40,000 per kilogram. As of the morning of May 21, the price stood at VND 35,000 per kilogram, bringing great excitement to local farmers.Ha Dong Commune currently has around 1,600 hectares of lychee cultivation, most of which are early-season varieties. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, this year’s output has dropped by half compared to last year. However, higher prices — up by VND 10,000 to 15,000 per kilogram — have helped offset the decline in production.At present, farmers in Ha Dong are entering the peak harvest period, which is expected to finish within about a week.The commune also has around 20 lychee purchasing and weighing stations, creating jobs for hundreds of local workers as well as laborers from neighboring provinces.After being purchased, the lychees are transported by traders to markets across the country and for export.
