Heatwave hits Hai Phong
Hai Phong is forecast to see a heatwave from May 24, with temperatures ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius and some areas facing extreme heat, according to the city’s hydro-meteorological station.
The scorching weather is being driven by a western low-pressure system, bringing widespread high temperatures across the city. Minimum relative humidity is forecast at around 50%-55%.
Districts including Thuy Nguyen, Le Chan, Hai An, Kien An, An Duong, An Lao, Tien Lang, Vinh Bao, Do Son, Duong Kinh and Cat Hai, along with former Hai Duong localities such as Hai Duong, Cam Giang, Tu Ky, Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien, Kim Thanh, Chi Linh, Kinh Mon and Thanh Ha, are likely to experience prolonged heat between noon and 4 p.m. each day.
The heatwave is expected to last until around May 27.
Meteorological authorities warned that high temperatures combined with lower humidity could raise the risk of fires in residential areas and forests due. Prolonged exposure to the heat may also cause dehydration, exhaustion and heat stroke.
The city’s hydro-meteorological station added that actual outdoor temperatures could feel 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than forecast, particularly in areas with asphalt roads.
