More than 60% of fires caused by electrical faults.

Since the start of 2026, the city’s Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue recorded 22 fires, a decrease of 111 incidents compared with the same period in 2025. Fortunately, there were no fatalities; emergency teams rescued 34 people safely. Property damage was estimated at around VND 570 million, about VND 700 million less than in the same period last year.

However, meteorological forecasts indicate that this summer will be hotter than 2025, and it is likely to mark the 12th consecutive year of record-high global temperatures.

Investigations show that the main causes of fires and explosions are faults in electrical systems and equipment, accounting for more than 60% of cases. Unattended or careless cooking or ritual offerings are the leading cause of home burns and fires.

Inspect and maintain electrical equipment

Demand for electrical devices in offices, businesses, commercial premises and households has risen sharply, especially during peak heat days.

Many buildings constructed years ago often have overloaded wiring systems, which increases the risk of short circuits and electrical fires.

In addition, a number of residents do not routinely inspect or maintain household wiring and electrical devices.

The city’s Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue recommends that households regularly check electrical devices to avoid short-circuit incidents caused by damage or old equipment.

During heatwaves, agencies and businesses should assign on-duty teams to patrol and ensure sufficient firefighting capacity to respond promptly to any fire or explosion.
