Tran Lieu ward has more than 60 hectares under taro cultivation.

According to the Farmers’ Association of Tran Lieu ward, local authorities are building a linked production–marketing model for taro farming, which has already generated substantial income, three to four times higher than rice cultivation.

The ward has more than 60 hectares dedicated to taro cultivation, concentrated in Dich Son and Ban Trai resident quarters . This model was introduced several years ago, after farmers found that growing watermelons had become unprofitable. Under guidance from the Farmers’ Association and the Agricultural Service Cooperative, many households boldly shifted their crop structure, replacing melons with taro.

Growing taro involves low input costs and high yields.

The taro production area in Tran Lieu ward now enjoys output contract. In addition to selling fresh tubers, local farmers also process the tubers into starch, which is used to make cakes and other products, further raising the economic value of the crop.
