Vietnam officially has 7 centrally-run cities
From April 30, 2026, Vietnam has 7 centrally-run cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Hue, and Dong Nai.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man has signed the certification of Resolution No. 30/2026/QH16 on establishing Dong Nai City based on the entire natural area and population scale of Dong Nai Province from April 30, 2026.
Thus, from April 30, 2026, Vietnam has 7 centrally-run cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Hue, and Dong Nai. These cities serve as special or type I urban areas, major national centers for economy, politics, and culture.
