According to the city’s Department of Agriculture and Environment, Hai Phong currently maintains 948 concentrated rice production zones, each covering 10 hectares or more, with a total area of about 14,000 hectares. These zones are widely developed in communes such as Vinh Hai, Vinh Bao, Vinh Am, Tien Minh, Thanh Mien, Thuong Hong, and Binh Giang.
Organizing rice production into concentrated zones brings multiple benefits, allowing farmers to follow the model of “one area, one variety, one cropping schedule.” This also enables the synchronized application of science and technology, helping reduce input costs, improve quality, and increase economic efficiency.
Rice varieties cultivated in these zones include BT7, BT7KBL, Nep DT22, TBR 225, and Nep Cai Hoa Vang. According to professional assessments, yields in concentrated production areas are typically 8–10% higher, while cultivation costs are reduced by 15–20% compared to conventional farming.
In line with the goal of developing large-scale commodity agriculture, the city plans to reorganize these zones by reducing their number while expanding their size. By 2030, Hai Phong aims to reach 32,000 hectares of concentrated rice cultivation, focusing on high-quality and specialty rice varieties.
