Hai Phong to experience 1–2 widespread heatwaves in April

According to the Hai Phong Hydrometeorological Station, the Hai Phong area is forecast to experience 1–2 widespread heatwaves in April, including some days of intense heat.

This year’s heatwave is arriving earlier than the average. The main reason is the transition of the ENSO pattern from La Nina to neutral conditions, with a tendency to shift toward El Nino.

In April, temperatures are expected to be 1–2°C higher than the long-term average, while rainfall may be 10–20 mm lower than usual. As this is also a seasonal transition period, there is a higher possibility of thunderstorms, whirlwinds, lightning, and hail. However, tropical storms and tropical depressions are unlikely to affect Hai Phong during April.

The early onset of heatwaves will significantly impact living conditions and socio-economic activities. In particular, it may increase the risk of fires and explosions, and raise the possibility of drought affecting agricultural production.
