Amid fluctuating fuel prices, many residents in the city are shifting to electric vehicles, reducing their dependence on gasoline.

Shift toward electric vehicles

At electric car and motorbike stores and dealerships across the city, the number of customers visiting in person or calling for product consultations has increased significantly compared with before. The market has become quite lively, especially since early March 2026, when tensions from the conflict in the Middle East caused domestic fuel prices to be adjusted repeatedly. As a result, the number of customers placing vehicle orders at dealerships has increased considerably.

While shopping for an electric motorbike at Hoang Phuc store on Le Loi Street (Gia Vien Ward), Ms. Bui Thi Thuy said: "Gasoline prices have been fluctuating continuously, making travel costs higher. My SH Mode motorbike has been in use for just over five years, but to adapt to the green consumption trend and use environmentally friendly products, I decided to switch to an electric motorbike."

According to Ms. Thuy, the distance from her home to her workplace is not far. With each charge, the vehicle can be used for several days, and the electricity cost is much lower than the cost of gasoline.

Electric vehicle products come in a wide variety of types and designs.

The electric motorbike market has been heating up, especially after the conflict in the Middle East pushed fuel prices higher. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, owner of the Hoa Diep electric vehicle chain, said that since early March 2026, electric vehicle products at stores within the system have shown clear changes in market demand.

Previously, electric vehicles were mainly used by students and women, but now the customer base has expanded to include office workers and employees in businesses and organizations.
“Customers are no longer only concerned about design. They now pay close attention to the driving range per charge, charging time, and battery replacement. This shows a serious shift toward green transportation,” Mr. Hoa shared.

The increase in demand is not limited to urban areas; in suburban areas, the purchasing power for electric motorbikes has also risen sharply. According to Ms. Dinh Thi Yen, owner of the Manh Yen electric vehicle store (Nam Trieu Ward), the number of customers coming to learn about and place orders has increased by about 50% compared with February 2026.

Part of the reason is that ninth-grade students are preparing for the entrance exam to grade 10, and many families want to buy vehicles early so their children can get used to them. However, many customers are also switching to electric motorbikes due to rising fuel costs in order to reduce monthly expenses. To meet growing demand, Yen recently rented additional retail space and imported a wider variety of models to offer customers more choices.

Electric motorbikes are gaining strong appeal among consumers amid fluctuating fuel prices.

Electric cars with major incentives

As fuel costs continue to rise, not only the motorbike market but also electric cars are attracting significant customer interest. At the VinFast Hai Phong dealership on Le Hong Phong Street (Hai An Ward), the number of customers calling for consultation and visiting the showroom to explore products has increased noticeably. Mr. Nguyen Van Luan, from An Lao district, said:
"Vingroup is implementing the ‘Trade Gas for Electric’ program, offering a 3% discount on VinFast cars and a 5% discount on VinFast electric motorbikes in four markets. With fuel prices rising sharply, I find this program very attractive."

He also noted that customers switching to VinFast vehicles can enjoy free battery charging at V-Green charging stations nationwide until February 10, 2029. In addition, the company offers a zero down-payment installment policy, with electric cars covered by a warranty of up to 10 years, while electric motorbikes are warranted for 6 years for the vehicle and 8 years for the battery.

As a ride-hailing driver, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, from Hoa Binh Ward, shared that from an economic perspective, electric taxis become more profitable the more they are used. Gasoline vehicles, by contrast, require more fuel, oil changes, and maintenance the more they operate. Meanwhile, electric vehicles benefit from free charging support. "For that reason, at the end of 2025 I replaced my Toyota Vios with a VinFast Limo Green. Since switching to an electric car, I have saved costs and achieved better profits. Seeing the economic efficiency, many drivers in my network are planning to switch to electric cars as well," Mr. Long said.
