Awakening potential of rural tourism
In Cuc Bo village, Khuc Thua Du commune, Hai Phong City, traditional values such as the woodcraft village and the rural landscape are opening a new path for rural‑tourism development.

Experiences built on existing values
Here, visitors can watch the traditional handcrafting process up close, from wood selection, sawing, carving and shaping to product finishing. The skillful hands of the artisans bear witness to their long‑standing experience and pride in the ancestral trade passed down through generations.
This is also the first year that the Cuc Bo carpentry village has welcomed foreign visitors. Christoph Karl, an English tourist, said ‘I was very impressed to see the craftsmen at work. Every step is done by hand, requiring patience and dexterity. It is all very new and exciting for us. Trips like this help us understand more about village life in Vietnam better’.
In addition to the carpentry village, Cuc Bo also attracts visitors with the temple dedicated to Khuc Thua Du, which honors three national heroes of the Khuc family including Khuc Thua Du, Khuc Thua Hao, and Khuc Thua My. The temple has been recognized as a national level historical relic. Visitors here are introduced to Vietnamese history, can stroll around the village, take part in seasonal agricultural activities, and enjoy rustic dishes prepared by local residents.
The role of connection and linkage

Since January 2026, Cuc Bo village has welcomed 15 groups of foreign tourists as well as many domestic groups and delegations from other localities, all coming to visit the craft village and pay respects at the Khuc Thua Du temple.
Although it has not yet received systematic investment, rural tourism in Cuc Bo is beginning to take shape from inherent strengths: the traditional craft village, the rural landscape, and the friendly local people. Early positive signs are reflected in the gradually increasing number of visitors, the interest shown by travel agencies.
In the coming time, Khuc Thua Du commune will continue to prioritize budget allocation for transport infrastructure, and will report to the City Party Committee and the People’s Committee on mechanisms and policies to build a craft village tourism system. It will also focus on training human resources for community‑based tourism, preserving and upgrading cultural works and relics related to local history.
