Strong consumer demand during the Lunar New Year holiday pushed CPI in February 2026 up from January.

According to the city’s Statistics Office, the CPI in February 2026 increased 0.53% from January, while the average CPI for the first two months rose 2.12% year-on-year, mainly due to stronger consumer demand during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Among the 11 main groups of consumer goods and services, eight recorded price increases compared with January.

Several factors pushed up the CPI during the month, including higher fuel prices following fluctuations in global fuel markets; rising construction material prices due to stronger demand at the beginning of the year; and higher prices for some essential goods amid holiday shopping.

Prices in the culture, entertainment and tourism group also rose as festivals and spring outings took place early in the year, while prices for electricity, household water and some vegetables declined thanks to abundant supply, helping curb the rise in the CPI and keep overall inflation at a relatively low level.
