New processes, new value

Agricultural production, livestock farming and aquaculture in Hai Phong remained relatively stable in the first two months of the year. The results were partly driven by the adoption of new technologies and technical solutions in production.

Dao Huu Thuan’s family in Vinh Lai hamlet, Mao Dien commune, raises more than 50,000 egg-laying chickens. The farm has applied several technological solutions, including automated systems using IoT and sensors and automatic vaccination machines. The chickens are raised under VietGAP standards, with productivity reaching about 300 eggs per hen each year.

The use of technology helps reduce costs, improve egg quality and limit environmental impacts. The model generates profits of around 1 billion VND per year.

Many cooperatives across Hai Phong are also adopting digital tools and new technologies in production and business operations. Cao Thi Hang, director of the Thang Thuy Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative in Vinh Thinh commune, said the cooperative sold thousands of boxes of chrysanthemum tea during the recent Lunar New Year holiday.

Medicinal chrysanthemum has been widely grown in the locality for about a decade. The cooperative has introduced cold-drying technology to process the flowers, helping preserve quality and ensure food safety. Products are also sold through online platforms such as TikTok, Zalo and Facebook.

Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Cooperative in Tran Lieu ward maintains a 10-hectare arrowroot cultivation area using organic-oriented farming practices that meet clean agricultural standards.

The cooperative has promoted its products on e-commerce platforms. Its arrowroot powder is now available in supermarkets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and has been exported to foreign markets including India, South Korea, Japan and France.

Strengthening linkages and support

Despite the benefits of applying advanced technologies, wider adoption across agricultural areas in Hai Phong will require stronger support and coordination from local authorities and relevant organizations.

The Hai Phong Farmers’ Association has supported farmers in building product brands, labels and traceability systems, while organizing agricultural fairs to promote local agricultural products.

More than 600 products have so far been recognized under the OCOP program, granted collective trademarks and equipped with traceability systems. Many products have linked with enterprises for processing and distribution in supermarkets, expanding their presence in domestic markets and export channels.

Hai Phong aims to raise the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to 212 million VND per hectare of agricultural and aquaculture land by 2026.

Luong Thi Kiem, deputy director of the city’s Department of Agriculture and Environment, said the sector will focus on expanding high-tech farming models, strengthening regional and supply-chain linkages and accelerating technology transfer.

Authorities will also support businesses and cooperatives in investing in machinery, cold storage and deep processing linked with traceability and brand building. At the same time, the city plans to review production zoning, consolidate farmland for larger-scale production, promote mechanization and digital agriculture, develop digital agricultural data infrastructure and expand e-commerce and export markets.
