Linh Son Vien Giac Pagoda in Kien Thuy Commune, Hai Phong City is a cultural heritage site sponsored by Vietnam's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, renowned for its unique garden of Arhat statues carved from monolithic stones.
Historical and spiritual cultural imprint
Majestically perched at an elevation over 50 meters amid picturesque natural surroundings, Linh Son Vien Giac Pagoda serves not only as a local faith destination but also as an alluring spiritual tourism spot in the port city. Being constructed in 2006, the pagoda was designed to become a Buddhist center.
Linh Son Vien Giac Pagoda is located on Doi Mountain and Che Mountain, built in an ancient pagoda architectural style. Doi Mountain peak once featured five stone slabs representing the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, where the earth's energy converges from mountains and rivers. Eight hundred years ago, King Tran Nhan Tong visited these sites for sightseeing. General Hung Dao also used Doi and Che Mountains as assembly points for troops from five Red River Delta provinces for the decisive battle that crushed the Mongol invaders on the historic Bach Dang River...
Perched on Doi Mountain peak, the structure dominates the landscape with panoramic views of Kien Thuy Commune, Do Son sea gateway, the green hills of Van Mieu Xuan La, and nearby historical sites.
In 2011, the pagoda was awarded the UNESCO Vietnam Certificate of Cultural Heritage Sponsorship, underscoring its cultural significance and role in the national heritage network. This UNESCO sponsorship is not just an honor but also a motivator for local authorities to preserve and promote the site's traditional and spiritual values.
Developing spiritual tourism
Every year, Linh Son Vien Giac Pagoda hosts numerous festivals steeped in Buddhist cultural identity: Lantern Festival (Lunar January10), Vu Lan Festival (Lunar July 15), Lotus Lantern Festival (Lunar September 29) and Year-End Ceremony (Lunar December 17). These events draw crowds of locals and tourists from afar, fostering community bonds and spiritual faith.
