Department of Industry and Trade reviews enterprises' import–export situation

The Department of Industry and Trade is monitoring the import–export activities of enterprises, particularly the level of impact from the new U.S. tax policy, in order to promptly advise on solutions and provide support.

Tinh Loi Garment Co., Ltd. is one of the city’s enterprises with a large export turnover.

On February 26, the City Department of Industry and Trade requested import–export enterprises across the city to coordinate and provide information related to their import and export activities in 2024, 2025, and the first two months of 2026, as well as export performance to the U.S. market during the same period. Enterprises are also asked to assess the impact of the United States’ imposition of additional tariffs of 10%, 15%, and 20% or higher, and to submit any recommendations or proposals to the Department before March 1.

According to representatives of the Department of Industry and Trade, from 12:01 a.m. on February 24 (U.S. time), the United States began applying an additional 10% tariff on imported goods. This tariff is imposed on top of the existing U.S. import duties under its current tariff schedule (and is expected to increase further in the near future following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump). This new policy may directly affect enterprises’ import–export activities with the U.S. market in particular, as well as overall trade turnover and market fluctuations in Hai Phong.

To promptly grasp the import–export situation of enterprises in the city—especially the level of impact from the new U.S. tariff policy—in order to proactively advise the City People’s Committee and propose solutions to central authorities to support businesses, the Department of Industry and Trade has called on enterprises to provide relevant information.

In 2025, Hai Phong’s total export turnover exceeded US$50 billion, up 8.5%, while imports surpassed US$41 billion, an increase of 22.4%. Hai Phong continues to affirm its position as a major international trade hub in the northern region.
