The brilliant yellow of the chrysanthemum fields in Tan Hung Ward (Hai Phong City) not only signals a bountiful flower harvest but also feels like an early call of spring to this land.

Tan Hung Ward has long been known as a large flower and ornamental plant cultivation area in the western part of the city, covering hundreds of hectares, mainly concentrated in Thanh Lieu residential area. In recent years, alongside traditional flowers, many households have shifted to growing chrysanthemums to supply the Tet market.

Flower-growing households in Tan Hung mainly choose chrysanthemums originating from South Korea. This variety features a uniformly round shape, diverse flower colors, and a long display period, making it well suited for Tet decoration.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Duan, a resident of Le Thanh Nghi Ward, commented: “This year, the chrysanthemums in Tan Hung are blooming evenly, with large blossoms and beautiful colors, so I decided to buy early to get the pots I like.”

Tuan Xuan Garden is growing around 15,000 pots of chrysanthemums. According to the garden owner, favorable weather conditions combined with years of accumulated experience have helped the chrysanthemums grow evenly, with larger pots and more beautiful blooms compared to previous seasons.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Nhan Bo, who is growing around 10,000 pots of chrysanthemums, said his family planted earlier than usual by about one month, starting in late June. Thanks to proactive crop scheduling, the flowers are just beginning to bloom at this time and will burst into full bloom right during Tet, meeting market demand. Timing plays a crucial role, as even a difference of a few days—whether the flowers bloom too early or too late—can affect both quality and marketability.

Garden owners also noted that chrysanthemums in Tan Hung are planted early and grown using electric lighting techniques similar to those applied in southern chrysanthemum-growing regions to regulate growth cycles and ensure the flowers bloom in time for Tet.

Towards the end of the year, many customers come directly to the gardens to personally select their plants, hoping to find pots with evenly rounded canopies and blooms at just the right time for Tet.
