In the final days of January, despite the rather cold weather, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoan in Hung Dao Ward continues to tend to her nearly 2-hectare flower garden. She said that for this year's Lunar New Year, her garden features a variety of flowers such as gladiolus and statice to serve city residents celebrating Tet and welcoming spring. She is delighted with this year's favorable weather, as the flowers in her garden are expected to bloom right on time for Tet. According to estimates from local florists, this year's harvest will bring high income, averaging around 350-400 million VND per hectare.
Supporting florists in product consumption
According to local florists, in addition to fresh flowers imported from other provinces and cities, there will be plenty of fresh flowers cultivated right in the city's own gardens. Although the flower cultivation area has shrunk due to land recovery for development projects, residents have proactively sought out and rented new plots of land, ensuring that the overall flower planting area remains sufficient. Mr. Tran Duy Hieu from An Khanh Commune shared that he has consolidated nearly ten perch of paddy fields to convert into flower cultivation. This Tet, he has 2 perches of chrysanthemums and 7 perches of roses to meet market demand.
Besides, the city authorities are also supporting farmers and some flower-growing households in selling flowers during Tet. Ms. Le Thi Duc, Head of the Training and Information Department (Forest Management and agricultural Extension under the Department of Agriculture and Environment), stated that department staff regularly assist flower gardens in selecting new high-value flower varieties for production, fertilizers, and promoting, disseminating, and transferring advanced scientific and technical application in flower cultivation.
