Branded ornamental kumquat cultivation hamlet

In late January 2025, many Tet kumquat gardens in Luong Cau were crowded with visitors. For many years, whenever Tet approaches, kumquat enthusiasts have consistently favored trees grown in Luong Cau, alongside those from An Duong, An Hai, An Khanh and An Hung, which are well known for their specialized ornamental kumquat cultivation.

To meet consumer demand, farmers in Luong Cau Hamlet are busy in the final weeks of the year carefully tending their gardens, ensuring the kumquat trees reach peak beauty and vibrant colors ahead of Tet. Mr. Nguyen Ba Chi, Head of Luong Cau Hamlet, said the hamlet has around 10 hectares under kumquat cultivation. This year, most gardens feature particularly attractive trees, with selling prices higher than last year.

About a month before Tet, a number of agencies, institutions, temples and pagodas placed early orders with local gardeners for ornamental kumquat trees. Smaller trees are also sold wholesale to dealers for distribution at spring flower markets.

Bring Tet to every household

The distinctiveness that has built the brand and reputation of Luong Cau’s ornamental kumquat growing area lies in the experience and dedication of local farmers. In the past, the hamlet mainly cultivated rice, resulting in low incomes for residents, with some farmland even left idle.

However, pioneering households took the initiative to restructure production, shifting to flowers and ornamental plants and introducing kumquat cultivation to the locality. With solid horticultural expertise, Luong Cau farmers have also kept pace with market trends, shaping kumquat trees with attractive forms that meet the increasingly high expectations of consumers.

The An Khanh Commune People’s Committee has identified the Luong Cau ornamental kumquat area as one of the locality’s key strengths in agricultural economic development. The commune has focused on encouraging expansion and supporting farmers in planning cultivation zones.

According to Pham Thi Hoa, Chairwoman of the An Khanh Commune People’s Committee, in order to enhance the brand value and standing of Luong Cau kumquat trees, the locality has prioritized promotion, strengthened market linkages for product consumption, and supported farmers with in-field irrigation systems.
