The cold spell, forecast to be of moderate to strong strength, is expected to last for about two to three days, said Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Forecasting Division at the NCHMF. The cold air carries moisture and is likely to bring rain accompanied by a drop in temperatures across the region.

From the night of January 27 to February 4, scattered rain is forecast in northern and north-central regions. In some areas, fog and light mist may occur in the early morning. From late afternoon and night on January 30 through January 31, rainfall is forecast to become more widespread. Some mountainous areas in the North may experience severe cold.

Looking ahead to climate trends through February 20, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Division, said that the Ha Tinh–Hue area and the South Central coastal region are likely to experience several spells of widespread rainfall.

Cold spells during this period are also expected to cause strong winds and high waves at sea, affecting maritime and fishing activities.

To proactively respond to severe and prolonged cold conditions, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has urged provincial and municipal authorities in affected areas to closely grasp weather warnings and forecasts, and to promptly inform local authorities and residents to take appropriate preventive measures.
