Despite severe cold weather with drizzling rain and outdoor temperatures around 10°C, farmers in Nam Thanh Mien commune (Haiphong City) are busy harvesting chilies with excitement.
The over 10 hectares of chili cultivation in Nam Thanh Mien commune is mainly concentrated in An Duong, Trieu Duong, and Phu Ke hamlets. This year's chili crop achieved good productivity, averaging 1 - 1.2 tons per perch. Notably, this year chili prices surged. While previous years saw prices at 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, this year they reached up to 90,000 dong/kg at times. As a result, chili growers earned about 30 million dong profit per perch, 4 - 5 times higher than previous years.High chili prices not only bring high income to growing households but also create seasonal jobs for many local laborers.
