Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival resumes qualifying round
To meet public demand in Do Son District, Hai Phong City, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved the resumption of the qualifying round of the Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival.

The decision follows a proposal by the Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee, allowing the Do Son Ward People’s Committee to organize the festival in its traditional format. Under the approved plan, the qualifying round will be held on June 8, according to the lunar calendar, while the final round will take place on August 9, according to the lunar calendar, in line with the festival’s historical origins and its status as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Member of the Hai Phong Party Committee, Secretary of the Do Son Ward Party Committee and Chairman of the ward People’s Council Le Quoc Tien said the traditional two-round format has been widely welcomed by the local residents. He noted that resuming the qualifying round reflects long-standing expectations within the local community.
According to Official Dispatch No. 12/BVHTTDL-VHCSGĐTV dated January 5, 2026, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism underscored the importance of organizing the Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival strictly in accordance with its national intangible cultural heritage dossier in order to uphold traditional cultural values.
The ministry also urged the Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Do Son Ward People’s Committee, and relevant agencies to strictly comply with the regulations on cultural heritage protection and festival management. The ministry urged authorities to maintain public order, ensure absolute safety, and crack down on gambling and profiteering, while banning ticket sales and any attendance fees.
