Hai Phong rolls out free Rotavirus Vaccine to infants from 2026
From 2026, children under 1 year old in Hai Phong will receive the Rotavirus vaccine free of charge as part of a city’s Expanded Immunization Program. This initiative is a major policy step with the aim of proactively preventing acute diarrhea caused by Rotavirus, the leading cause of hospitalization and death among young children.
Starting in January 2026, the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control will officially include the Rotavirus vaccine in the Expanded Immunization Program across the city. This move is considered a key step in preventing serious Rotavirus infections in infants.

The program aims to ensure that over 95 percent of children under 1 year old receive both doses. The first dose will be given at 2 months of age, followed by the second dose at least one month later. Those who have missed a dose or have not been vaccinated will be given catch-up vaccinations as soon as possible, which must be completed before 6 months of age, in line with professional guidelines.
City health centers are required to compile complete lists of infants aged 2 to under 6 months, ensuring that no child is left out. The Rotavirus vaccine will be administered alongside other routine vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program. Any postponed vaccinations will be rescheduled within the same month, ensuring all eligible children are covered by the program.
Vaccination safety is given a top priority. All staff involved in the program receive training on proper procedures and how to manage any post-vaccination reactions. The cold chain system at regional storage facilities is fully equipped to meet storage and transport requirements, safeguarding the effectiveness of the immunization program.
