Abandoned fields become ‘golden ponds’

More than 10 farming households have converted abandoned fields in Bieu Da village, An Khanh commune, Hai Phong city, into ‘golden ponds,’ generating billion-VND incomes each year.

Bieu Da village, An Khanh commune previously had large areas of abandoned agricultural land. Some households have transformed these areas into ponds for raising ornamental and food fish for economic development.

With nearly 3 ha devoted to fish farming, the family of Nguyen Van Chuan is among the first households to change cultivation models.

Here, households mainly raise ornamental and food fish under a closed production process.

Some ornamental fish species with high economic value, such as arowana, are sold at 1 - 5 million VND/ fish.

With a closed process from fingerlings to sale, the ponds deliver high economic efficiency, generating profits of 350 million - 1 billion VND each year.

The economic development model here attracts interest and study visits from farmers both inside and outside the area.
