Groundbreaking ceremony held for Subproject 1 of Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Hai Phong railway
Subproject 1 of Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Hai Phong railway is one of 13 projects launched or inaugurated by Hai Phong to mark the 14th National Party Congress.

The Hai Phong People’s Committee, in coordination with the Ministry of Construction, held a groundbreaking ceremony for Subproject 1 – investment in infrastructure connecting stations along the line and station squares – under the Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Hai Phong railway project on December 19 at the Hai Duong Nam station area in Yet Kieu and Gia Loc communes.

The ceremony was held simultaneously at five locations nationwide, namely Lao Cai station (Lao Cai province), Phu Tho station (Phu Tho province), Bac Hong station (Ha Noi), Luong Tai station (Hung Yen province), and Hai Duong Nam station (Hai Phong).
Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Hai Phong railway is a nationally important transport project with a total investment of more than 203,200 billion VND, scheduled for completion no later than 2030.

The railway has a main line length of approximately 390.9 km and branch lines totaling about 27.9 km, a single track with a 1,435-mm gauge, and is designed to carry both passengers and cargo.
Subproject 1 includes investment in infrastructure connecting Hai Duong Nam, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Bac Hong, and Luong Tai stations and station squares, with a total investment of 3,298 billion VND.

The project is associated with Hai Phong’s southern coastal economic zone and new-generation free trade zone. The section passing through the city extends more than 110 km, including the main line and two branch ones, crossing 23 communes, wards, and special zones, and includes six stations and three technical operation facilities.
The launch of Subproject 1 marks an important milestone in realizing the goal of building a modern, synchronized railway, meeting transport demand along the East–West corridor and strengthening international rail connectivity between Vietnam and China.

Speaking at the ceremony, Le Trung Kien, Member of the Standing Board of the Hai Phong Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee, affirmed that the project is of special significance and will serve as a driving force for the city’s socio-economic development.
Hai Phong pledges to continue close coordination with ministries, Central sectors and the investor in site clearance, creating favorable conditions for the project to be implemented on schedule, safely, and effectively, Kien said.
