A Hai Phong delegation led by Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau has just successfully concluded a nine-day working visit to the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Belgium.

The visit not only strengthened comprehensive and friendly cooperation with Hai Phong’s traditional partners in the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Belgium, but also reinforced the image of a dynamic Hai Phong with strong potential and development opportunities in a new phase, conveying the message of readiness to welcome new investors to the new Hai Phong city.

A number of memoranda of understanding were signed between Hai Phong and major corporations during the visit. Notably, through meetings and exchanges, leaders of many organizations, cities and enterprises in Belgium and the Czech Republic gained a new perspective on the city. Many shared common views, expressing high appreciation for cooperation initiatives and the dynamism of Hai Phong’s leadership, and showing interest in investing in the city and supporting the search for suitable models in port governance, logistics and green industry.

Hai Phong city after merger is not only an expansion of development space but a complementary, circular economic spatial structure. It represents a combination of a modern seaport and logistics center with an industrial and high-tech agricultural hinterland, featuring outstanding advantages in its international seaport system, strategic transport infrastructure, and a network of key industrial parks and economic zones.

With double-digit growth for 10 consecutive years, export turnover of 36 billion USD, port cargo throughput of more than 140 million tons, and nearly 1,750 valid foreign direct investment projects with total registered capital exceeding 50.52 billion USD, Hai Phong’s strong attractiveness and broad potential for cooperation with international partners, including the Czech Republic and Belgium, are evident.

With significant potential and a green, sustainable development orientation, the city seeks to further expand cooperation in seaports and logistics, green industry, supporting industries, high technology, energy transition, the circular economy, smart cities, and education and training.

These are areas in which Belgium and the European Union have strengths and which align well with Hai Phong’s development needs, particularly in enhancing political trust, raising its position as a seaport, logistics and ecological center, and building a worth-living city.

Over the years, cooperation between Hai Phong and Belgium has continued to deepen. The DEEP C Industrial Zones stands as a symbol of successful cooperation between Vietnam and the Kingdom of Belgium in general, and between Hai Phong and Belgium in particular. Cooperation in trade, seaports, logistics, education with the University of Antwerp and the University of Liège, scientific research, energy and environmental management has all achieved positive results.

At the same time, Hai Phong shares many similarities with industrial and port centers in Europe, as well as with major industrial cities of the Czech Republic. Hai Phong and Czech enterprises still have many opportunities for new cooperation, particularly in Czech strengths such as manufacturing, precision engineering, environmental technology, energy and other high-tech industries.

The working visit by Hai Phong’s leadership to the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Belgium affirms the city’s aspiration and determination to proactively seize opportunities, fully leverage its potential and advantages as a port city and regional economic center, the “main gateway to the sea” of northern Vietnam; to build Hai Phong into a modern marine economic center with international connectivity and a growth driver for the northern region; and to propel Hai Phong forward in a new era of national development.
