Exhibition on Con Son, Kiep Bac underway at Yen Tu

An exhibition on thousand-year heritage achievements of Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac is taking place at Yen Tu site in Quang Ninh province.

An exhibition on thousand-year heritage achievements of Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac is being co-organized by the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province, Hai Phong city and Bac Ninh province from December 18 to 22 at Yen Tu relic and scenic site in Quang Ninh

The exhibition is part of a series of activities commemorating the 717th anniversary of the nirvana of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong and celebrating the inscription of the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac relic and scenic complex as a world cultural heritage site.

The exhibition introduces a system of artifacts, ancient texts, images and 3D digital materials related to Truc Lam Zen sect; the cultural space of Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac across the three localities; and the teachings of the “Three Patriarchs of Truc Lam” (Tran Nhan Tong, Phap Loa and Huyen Quang).

Also on display are replicas of royal ordination decrees, stele inscriptions, sutras, woodblocks from Vinh Nghiem pagoda, a 3D model of Yen Tu in the Tran Dynasty, and many typical Buddhist archaeological, architectural and artistic artifacts.

Preparations for the exhibition opening are basically completed.

The exhibition space is arranged into two main themes. Theme 1, “The journey to becoming a world cultural heritage site,” introduces the 13-year process of preparing the nomination dossier for the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac relic and scenic complex, thereby clarifying the criteria met by the heritage site and affirming the outstanding value of indigenous cultural and religious traditions.

Theme 2, “Con Son, Kiep Bac – Outstanding universal values,” focuses on presenting the historical, cultural, religious and landscape depth of component sites located in Hai Phong, such as Con Son pagoda, Kiep Bac temple, Thanh Mai pagoda, Kinh Chu cave and Nham Duong pagoda.

In addition to historical and cultural values, the exhibition also highlights the harmony between nature and humans, reflected in mountainous landscapes, caves, ancient forests and archaeological traces dating back tens of thousands of years, contributing to the outstanding universal value of the relic and scenic complex.
