Hai Phong, Mersin to promote cooperation

Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Council Le Van Hieu has visited and worked with the leadership of Mersin city, Turkey.

Within the framework of a working visit to Turkey, a delegation from Hai Phong, led by Chairman of the city People’s Council Le Van Hieu, has paid a courtesy call and had a working session with the leadership of Mersin city, a major economic and seaport center in southern Turkey.

Receiving and working with the delegation was Murat Çağrı Erdinç, Mersin Vice Governor. The Mersin leader expressed pleasure at welcoming the Hai Phong delegation, highly valued the significance of the visit, and regarded it as a concrete step contributing to strengthening cooperation between localities of Vietnam and Turkey amid positive development in bilateral relations.

The Vice Governor affirmed that Mersin has extensive experience and strengths in seaport management and operation, multimodal logistics development, transport industry, and high-quality industrial parks, and expressed a desire to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Hai Phong, the largest northern seaport gateway of Vietnam.

The Mersin leader voiced confidence that the Hai Phong delegation’s working visit would open up many concrete and substantive opportunities for cooperation between the two sides in the time ahead.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Council Le Van Hieu emphasized the city’s aspiration to become a pioneering locality in realizing the cooperation potential between Vietnam and Turkey by strengthening connections with localities sharing similarities, particularly in seaports, logistics, and industrial development.

Clarifying core strengths, Chairman Le Van Hieu highlighted seaport and logistics infrastructure as priority areas for Hai Phong. The city has around 50 ports, notably the Lach Huyen deep-water one, which can accommodate large container vessels of up to 165,000 DWT and offers direct connections to Europe and the Americas.

During the working program in Mersin, the Hai Phong delegation also visited Mersin Port, one of the largest and most modern seaports in Turkey.

Based on exchanges and on-site surveys, Hai Phong proposed strengthening cooperation with Mersin in experience sharing on port planning, management, and operation; logistics development; investment promotion in port, logistics, and industrial park infrastructure; and training and development of high-quality human resources, and expanding research and cooperation in high-tech agriculture.

Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Council Le Van Hieu affirmed the city’s commitment to accompanying and creating the most favorable conditions for international partners, including enterprises from Mersin, to explore, cooperate, and invest in the city and expressed confidence that cooperation between Hai Phong and Mersin would continue to deepen and contribute to strengthening Vietnam – Turkey friendship.
