Happiness in new houses
In mid-November 2025, the “Great Unity” house funded by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) at all levels and political and social organizations for the family of Pham Thi Yeu in residential group 5, Dong Hai ward, Hai Phong was inaugurated. Moving into her new home, Yeu was overwhelmed with emotion: “More than half my life I lived in a shabby house. Whenever it was about to rain, I had to get the buckets ready to catch the water. I never dared to think I would have a solid, spacious ‘Great Unity’ house like this. Just looking at it fills me with joy and happiness.”
Over the past time, caring for the poor has continued to be a priority of the VFF – “For the Poor” Fund Mobilization Boards at all levels and member organizations. The effort has been widely implemented, drawing in the entire political system and receiving broad support from the community. Among these initiatives, the movement to build and repair “Great Unity” houses has been especially prominent.
During this year’s peak month “For the Poor” (from October 17 to November 18), 190 Great Unity houses were built for poor and near-poor households across the city. Each house received 100 million VND from the city’s “For the Poor” Fund.

According to VFF Committees at all levels in Hai Phong, many old houses had not been upgraded for years because their owners were in vulnerable circumstances, elderly, disabled, ill, or with unstable incomes, leaving them unable to contribute matching funds.
To address this barrier, the VFF at all levels in the city mobilized organizations, businesses, individuals and member units to jointly support vulnerable households in building Great Unity houses, generating positive results.
Large contributions came from the Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup) and VSIP Hai Phong Co., Ltd., with support ranging from 100 - 200 million VND/ house.
With a steadfast goal that “social welfare must move ahead of economic development,” and building on the success of the movement to build Great Unity houses, the city VFF continues to apply flexible, suitable approaches to ensure social welfare for residents in the new context.
According to Nguyen Duc Tuan, Member of the municipal Party Committee’s Standing Board and Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong VFF Committee, the committee has set an annual target to mobilize resources for the “For the Poor” Fund and social welfare activities for the 2025 – 2030 term. The VFF at all levels aims to mobilize 60 – 80 billion VND from social resources each year.
Of that amount, at least 40 billion VND is expected to come through the “For the Poor” Fund at all levels, and social welfare programs are expected to raise at least 20 billion VND. The goal is that by 2028, the city will no longer have poor households under the multidimensional poverty standards for the 2026 – 2030 period.
