Large orders create new momentum for shipbuilding industry
Hai Phong’s shipbuilding sector is receiving major orders from both domestic and international clients, creating momentum for a new breakthrough.

Bright outlook
In the final months of the year, workshops at Pharung Shipyard Company are rushing to complete the last oil and chemical tankers in a series of 10 vessels for export to Yentec Company in South Korea. General Director Vu Huu Chien said this contract, along with several others for ship repair and newbuilding, will ensure stable employment until mid-2029.
The year-end production picture at Song Cam Shipbuilding JSC. is also positive. With more than a month left before the end of 2025, the company has already completed and delivered dozens of new ships, far exceeding schedule. General Director Hoang Van Tung said the company’s total production value this year is expected to reach around 1.295 trillion VND, surpassing the plan by 25%.
According to the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, after the 2008 crisis, the city’s shipbuilding and repair facilities have shown clear recovery. Output is increasing, revenue is improving, and workers’ livelihoods are ensured with an average salary of 12 – 14 million VND per person per month. Several shipyards continue to receive high-value contracts for export and domestic vessels, securing jobs through the end of 2026, while also negotiating orders for 2027 – 2028.
Foundation for new progress

Rapid recovery and the expansion of international markets have reaffirmed shipbuilding as a key industry for the city. At a working session with Aries Energy Corporation and Delta Group on November 12, Le Trung Kien, Member of the city Party Committee’s Standing Board, Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee and Head of the city Economic Zone Authority, stressed that shipbuilding is a specialized sector with a leading role in industrialization and modernization.
In the coming period, the city will implement a project to restore and develop the shipbuilding industry and adjust its master plan toward 2040, with a vision to 2050, focusing on modernization, green development and smart technology. Priorities include automation, digital transformation, new materials, environmental standards and energy efficiency.
Experts say the global shipbuilding market is expanding strongly. Clean-energy vessels, automated technologies and advanced materials are expected to dominate the 2026–2030 period. This is a market segment Hai Phong enterprises can enter if they adopt the right investment strategy.
The strong recovery of major shipbuilding enterprises, along with new mechanisms and policies under development, is expected to create a solid foundation for Hai Phong’s shipbuilding industry to continue growing, expand into international markets and contribute significantly to the maritime economy.
Hai Phong is home to about 150 enterprises operating in shipbuilding and supporting industries, including 34 shipyards with more than 21,000 workers. Products from Hai Phong enterprises have been exported to major markets such as the UK, the Netherlands, South Korea, Germany, Norway, Japan and Taiwan (China).
