Advanced techniques drive red-flesh dragon fruit profits
Pilot results show that the comprehensive application of technical measures helps red-flesh dragon fruit grow well, significantly reduces pest infestation, and generates profits of over 120 million VND per hectare per year.

From January to November 2025, the Center for Innovation and Application of Science and Technology under the Hai Phong Department of Science and Technology implemented a project titled “Applying integrated technical solutions to control major pests on dragon fruit plants.”
Two pilot models, each covering one hectare, were developed in Nguyen Trai ward.

Technical measures were comprehensively applied under the Integrated Pest Management approach, including pruning and garden sanitation, organic fertilization, root treatment with biological products, usage of pheromone traps, and combination of biological and chemical spraying when necessary.
Monitoring results showed a sharp decline in pest rates, with productivity reaching 13.9 – 14.1 tons per hectare and average profits of 126 million VND per hectare per year.
The center proposed continued monitoring, refinement, and expansion of the model to other localities, aiming to produce red-flesh dragon fruit that meets VietGAP standards.
