Hai Phong, Guangdong eye stronger cooperation

Hai Phong has attracted more than 55 FDI projects from Guangdong province of China with a total investment of over 560 million USD.

Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Le Ngoc Chau chaired a meeting with a delegation from China’s Guangdong province, led by Vice Governor Zhang Guozhi, during their working visit to Hai Phong on October 29.

Hai Phong and Guangdong have maintained a long-standing and positive cooperative relationship, Chau said, expressing his strong impression of Guangdong’s strength and great potential for cooperation with Vietnam in general and Hai Phong in particular.

Overview of the meeting

Briefing the delegation on Hai Phong’s socio-economic development achievements and advantages, the city chairman proposed that Guangdong continue to enhance cooperation, business networking, and investment and trade promotion to further expand and deepen relations between the two sides in a more practical and effective manner; encourage and support Guangdong enterprises operating in high technology, supporting industries, electronics, and trade to invest and do business in Hai Phong; back existing Guangdong investors in Hai Phong to expand their operations; and create conditions for businesses of the two sides to make connections and promote investment and trade cooperation.

The Hai Phong leader also suggested that Guangdong promote the reopening and maintenance of the Hai Phong–Shenzhen air route to boost investment attraction, develop tourism, and meed travel demand for investors, businesses, and residents of both localities.

Regarding the Guangdong delegation’s proposals to further strengthen cooperation in seaports and logistics, the chairman affirmed that these are among Hai Phong’s key development sectors in the coming years. The city is committed to accompanying and creating the most favorable conditions to realize these cooperation opportunities.

As for the delegation’s request for continued site clearance in An Duong industrial park and facilitation in granting land-use right certificates to enterprises in the park, the chairman assigned relevant departments to implement the tasks as soon as possible.

On her side, Guangdong Vice Governor Zhang Guozhi congratulated and expressed her admiration for Hai Phong’s socio-economic achievements.

Zhang affirmed that in the coming time, Guangdong authorities and businesses will continue to strengthen and develop relations with Hai Phong, thereby promoting investment cooperation, high-quality human resource training, seaport and logistics planning and development, and transport connectivity.

She also expressed her hope that Hai Phong will continue to facilitate the expansion of Guangdong enterprises’ production and business activities in the city.

Hai Phong currently hosts 769 investment projects from China (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau) with a total investment of 12.77 billion USD, accounting for more than one-fourth of the city’s total FDI. Of these, over 55 projects come from Guangdong province with a total investment of more than 560 million USD.

A highlight is An Duong industrial park, which accommodates nearly 40 enterprises with a total investment of about 1 billion USD, creating jobs for around 20,000 workers and making a significant contribution to the city’s socio-economic development.
