Enhancing ASEAN economic integration efficiency for Hai Phong businesses

Hai Phong’s export value to ASEAN in 2024 and 2025 has accounted for about 10 – 12% of the city’s total export turnover.

The Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Multilateral Trade Policy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade co-organized a seminar titled “The ASEAN Economic Community and utilizing commitments in free trade agreements of ASEAN to which Vietnam is a signatory” on October 14.

The seminar gathered more than 200 delegates from State management agencies, industry associations, economic experts, and the business community, particularly exporters and producers targeting the ASEAN market.

Within the program’s framework, experts from the Department of Multilateral Trade Policy provided updates on the ASEAN Economic Community and summarized new points in the rules of origin under ASEAN free trade agreements (FTAs). The information aims to help improve the effective use of FTAs and promote Hai Phong’s export growth.

The delegates also heard experts share practical experiences and solutions to help businesses in Hai Phong in particular and Vietnam in general enhance competitiveness and take full advantage of incentives, rules of origin, and market access commitments under ASEAN FTAs.

Nguyen Cong Han, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, said that in 2024 and 2025, Hai Phong’s export value to ASEAN accounted for around 10 – 12% of the city’s total exports, with an average growth rate of 16%. Major export products from Hai Phong enterprises to the ASEAN market include textiles and garments, footwear, electronic products and components, machinery, equipment, and spare parts. This result demonstrates the efforts of Hai Phong’s business community in making effective use of opportunities from ASEAN FTAs.
