Super Typhoon Ragasa enters East Sea, violent seas forecast off Hai Phong
Super Typhoon Ragasa has entered the East Sea with maximum sustained winds of 221 km/h, level 17, gusting above level 17, becoming the ninth storm in the region this year.

At 4 am on September 23, Super Typhoon Ragasa was located at around 19.8 degrees North latitude and 118.8 degrees East longitude, over the northeastern part of the northern East Sea, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
The storm is moving west-northwest at about 20 km/h, with maximum sustained winds near the center at level 17 (equivalent to 202 – 221 km/h), gusting above level 17.
Forecasts indicate that by 4 am on September 24, the storm will be about 450 km east of the Leizhou Peninsula (China), maintaining winds of level 16 – 17, gusting above level 17.
By 4 am on September 25, the storm’s center will be over the southern part of Guangdong province (China), weakening to level 12, gusting to level 15.
By 4 am on September 26, the storm will continue moving west-southwest, weakening into a tropical depression with winds at level 6, gusting to level 8, over northern Vietnam.
From September 24, winds over the waters around Bach Long Vi special zone of Hai Phong will gradually strengthen to level 6 – 7, gusting to level 9.
From the evening of September 24, winds over the waters around Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai special zone – Lan Ha bay, and Hon Dau island will increase to level 8 – 9, with waves 2 – 4 m high; areas near the storm’s center will reach level 10 – 12, gusting to level 14, with waves 4 – 6 m high; the sea will be violently rough.
From the early morning of September 25, coastal waters off the wards and communes of Hai An, Dong Hai, Nam Trieu, Do Son, Nam Do Son, Duong Kinh, Chan Hung, Hung Thang, and Kien Hai will see winds strengthening to level 6 – 7, later increasing to level 8; areas near the storm’s center will reach level 9 – 10, gusting to level 12.
Meanwhile, inland communes and wards of Hai Phong city will experience strong winds at level 6, gusting to level 8 – 9.
Due to the impact of strong winds, all vessels, anchorage areas, aquaculture farms, sea dykes, and other activities in these waters face a very high risk from thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and high waves.
