Strong transition
On the afternoon of May 13, 2025, State President Luong Cuong and Central and Hai Phong leaders pressed the button to inaugurate Berths 3 and 4 at Lach Huyen port. From that point, six berths of Lach Huyen port were put into synchronous operation. These are all deep-water berths with modern loading and unloading equipment, capable of receiving the world's largest container ships.
It can be said that never before have Hai Phong seaport and logistics activities faced such a golden opportunity for breakthrough development as they do now. According to Pham Quoc Long, Chairman of the Vietnam Ship Agents, Brokers and Maritime Service Providers Association, over the past five years, cargo throughput at Hai Phong seaport has maintained double-digit growth. Many new port terminals have been built and continuously upgraded and modernized.
For Hai Phong, the seaport is not only a gateway for import and export of goods but also a “magnet” attracting investment capital from around the world, Long said.
Most recently, UK-based Lloyd’s List magazine has announced its 2025 ranking of the 100 busiest container ports worldwide, in which Hai Phong seaport ranked 29th with cargo throughput reaching nearly 7.1 million TEU.

According to the Hai Phong Maritime Administration, Hai Phong seaport has 56 terminals with a total berth length of 17 km, stretching from the Cam river, Vat Cach, Dinh Vu, Nam Dinh Vu to Lach Huyen. This number will certainly not stop here, as the construction of the next berths at Lach Huyen port (from berths 7 - 12) have been requested by city leaders to be accelerated, with the goal of commencement in the second quarter of 2026.
To get ahead of the development trend, the Nam Do Son port project with a total planned investment of up to 5 billion USD will be built into a large-scale international transshipment port, affirming the ambition of making Hai Phong one of the leading maritime centers in the region, with groundbreaking expected to begin next year.
Along with the development of the seaport system, logistics activities in the city are bustling. The city has 250 enterprises registering to provide logistics services with more than 170,000 workers, along with 60 main warehouses covering a total area of about 701 ha. Among them are two large-scale logistics centers already in operation: Green Logistics Center and Yusen Logistics Center. Two centers under construction include the CDC Hai Phong Gateway Port Trade and Logistics Service Center and the logistics center belonging to Hai Phong International Gateway Port industrial park (Deep C3).
Hai Phong is a locality with a dynamic growth rate in logistics, achieving a growth rate of 20 - 23% per year, with the share of logistics services making up 13 - 15% of the city’s GRDP.
Strategic intersection, convergence of corridors

According to Tran Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong Business Association, with its position as one of the largest seaports in the country, Hai Phong seaport today, with a new stature, is not only the main gateway to the sea for northern provinces and cities but also a “strategic intersection,” a convergence point of the most important economic corridors in northern Vietnam. This position is further strengthened as Hai Phong is the seaward end of the Kunming (China) - Lao Cai – Ha Noi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh Economic Corridor, a key link in the “Two Corridors, One Belt” cooperation framework.
Promoting its existing advantages, in recent years, the city has focused on mobilizing all resources to develop transportation and urban infrastructure, industrial parks, and economic zones. Up to now, many transportation works with regional and interregional linkage roles have been completed and put into operation, forming an interconnected transportation network.
To maximize advantages in geographical location, seaport and aviation infrastructure, logistics, industry, and trade to soon make Hai Phong a strategic global trade gateway, the city is promoting the development of modern logistics services associated with seaports, airports, railways, roads, and inland waterways. It is proactively studying and formulating mechanisms and policies to attract major global shipping lines, increasing the frequency of direct container routes to Europe and the US so that by 2030, Hai Phong will become a model of green and smart ports in Vietnam and the region.
