Foundation for green transition
Hai Phong allocated more than 3.9 trillion VND to environmental protection during the 2021–2024 period, demonstrating the city’s political commitment and priority in its development strategy.
The money was reasonably distributed to the construction and upgrading of key projects such as centralized wastewater treatment plants, modern solid waste treatment facilities, and automatic environmental monitoring systems to strengthen oversight capacity.
A notable highlight is that 100% of industrial parks and clusters in the city are operating wastewater treatment systems meeting environmental standards. Many have also adopted the eco-industrial park model with integrated solutions in waste management, emission reduction, and recycling, making important contributions to improving environmental quality.
Nam Cau Kien industrial park is a typical example of Hai Phong’s green development direction. There, measures from wastewater management to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions are implemented comprehensively, contributing to the formation of a circular economy aimed at growth that does not harm the natural environment or public health.
At the same time, domestic waste sorting at source has been seriously carried out with a synchronous collection and treatment system, bringing practical benefits in reducing pollution and improving resource efficiency.
According to the latest data, Hai Phong has achieved a 100% collection rate of domestic waste in urban areas, with hygienic transportation and treatment. In rural areas, the collection rate is about 99%, with approximately 87% treated according to standards, indicating room for further improvement, especially outside urban centers.

Regarding clean water, access in urban areas is nearly universal. In rural areas, more than 94% of households are supplied through centralized water systems, of which 74.4% meet the national standards for domestic water quality.
Coordination - driver of sustainable development
To successfully build a “green frontline” in the city, close cooperation among authorities, businesses, and communities is essential. Each individual must recognize their responsibility in protecting the environment and join hands for the common good of society and future generations.
Hai Phong has been establishing a solid foundation for green economic growth, becoming a model of sustainable development in Northern Vietnam. Its environmental protection achievements reflect strong political determination, innovation in governance, and breakthroughs in technology.
However, the city needs to maintain its commitment, continuously renew its approach, and enhance management efficiency to sustain and expand its “green frontline” – a vital factor for sustainable development, contributing to the success of national environmental goals and the country’s progress.
