Tropical depression approaching, heavy rain forecast in many areas of Hai Phong
Although still 200-300 km offshore, a tropical depression began bringing level-6 winds and heavy rain to Nghe An – Quang Tri, while many areas of Hai Phong also experienced moderate to heavy rain this morning.
A tropical depression was about 320 km from Quang Tri and 220 km from Hue at 4 am and is forecast to strengthen into a storm this morning (August 30), according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Today, the northern Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi special zone of Hai Phong) will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall of 50 - 100 mm.
The sea area of Hai Phong (including Cat Hai special zone, Cat Ba waters, Lan Ha Bay, and Hon Dau–Do Son waters) will see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 50 - 90 mm.
The northeastern and southeastern wards and communes of the city (including forecast points: Thuy Nguyen, Le Chan, Hai An, Duong Kinh, An Duong, An Lao, Kien An, Tien Lang, Vinh Bao) will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 40 - 80 mm.
The northwestern and southwestern wards and communes of the city (including forecast points: Hai Duong, Chi Linh, Thanh Ha, Kim Thanh, Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien, Cam Giang, Kinh Mon, and Tu Ky) will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 30 - 70 mm.
