Storm No. 5 with gusts up to level 17 forecast to bring heavy to very heavy rain across Hai Phong

Hai Phong city will experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing downpours and thunderstorms, from early morning on August 25 through the end of August 26.

According to the Hai Phong Hydro-Meteorological Station, at 4 am today (August 25), storm No. 5’s center was located at approximately 18.3 degrees North latitude and 107.7 degrees East longitude, about 220 km east-southeast of Nghe An, 200 km east-southeast of Ha Tinh, and 180 km east-northeast of northern Quang Tri.

The strongest winds near the storm’s center reached level 14 (150 – 166 km/h), with gusts up to level 17. The storm was moving west-northwest at around 20 km/h.

By 4 pm today, the storm is forecast to continue moving west-northwest at around 20 km/h, with its center located at approximately 18.6 degrees North latitude and 106.0 degrees East longitude, offshore between Thanh Hoa and northern Quang Tri.

Today, the western waters of the northern East Sea is forecast to see strong winds at levels 6 – 7, gusting to level 9, with waves 3 – 5 m high and rough seas.

In the southern Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi special zone of Hai Phong), winds will strengthen to levels 8 – 9, gusting to level 11, with waves 3 – 5 m high and very rough seas.

In the northern Gulf of Tonkin (including Cat Hai, Hon Dau, and Lan Ha Bay of Hai Phong), winds will gradually increase to levels 6 – 7, gusting to level 9, with waves 1.5 – 2.5 m high and rough seas.

From this morning, coastal areas including the wards and communes of Hai An, Dong Hai, Nam Trieu, Do Son, Nam Do Son, Duong Kinh, Chan Hung, Hung Thang, and Kien Hai will see winds strengthening to levels 5 – 6, gusting to levels 7 – 8.

On land, northeastern and southeastern wards and communes of Hai Phong will experience winds at levels 4 – 5, gusting to levels 6 – 7, while northwestern and southwestern wards and communes will see winds at levels 3 – 4, occasionally reaching level 5, gusting to level 6.

From early morning on August 25 until the end of August 26, the entire Hai Phong city will have moderate to heavy rain, with some places experiencing downpours and thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts.

In the mainland (including forecast points in Thuy Nguyen, Le Chan, Hai An, Duong Kinh, An Duong, An Lao, Kien An, Tien Lang, and Vinh Bao), rainfall will range from 70 – 120 mm, with localized amounts exceeding 150 mm.

In Hai Duong, Chi Linh, Thanh Ha, Kim Thanh, Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien, Cam Giang, Kinh Mon, and Tu Ky wards, rainfall will range from 50 – 100 mm.
