Electricity consumption in Hai Phong hits record high amid heatwave
Hai Phong recorded its highest electricity consumption on August 4 as from the beginning of 2025.

According to statistics from the Load Dispatch Center of Hai Phong Power Company, the city’s electricity consumption peaked on August 4. The maximum recorded capacity was 3,284 MW, a 13.1% increase compared to the highest day in 2024. Electricity output reached over 67.1 million kWh, up 12.2%.
The record surge in power consumption was mainly due to the prolonged and widespread heatwave. From August 1 to 4, electricity demand in Northern Vietnam rose by approximately 25% compared to normal days, causing many power lines and substations to become overloaded. On August 4 alone, the Northern region’s electricity consumption reached a peak of 28,500 MW, the highest level since the start of 2025.
To ensure the safe operation of the power grid, Hai Phong Power Company maximized local generation sources and coordinated closely with transmission units, power plants, and other electricity providers in the region.
The company also advised households and businesses to save electricity, especially during peak hours from 1 pm to 3 pm and from 8 pm to 11 pm. Users are encouraged to prioritize energy-efficient appliances, unplug unused devices, and avoid operating multiple high-power devices at the same time.
