Thanh was the only student from Hai Phong selected to compete internationally. A gifted and exceptional student, he secured a silver medal with a high ranking, 15th out of 120, at the 2024 Avicenna International Biology Olympiad (AIBO) held in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, while still in 11th grade.

IBO is the world’s premier high school-level natural sciences competition. It requires a comprehensive understanding of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science, along with basic laboratory skills. The exam spans topics from the molecular and organismal levels to ecosystems and the biosphere. Contestants face two days of testing, which include both theory and practical components.
