Hong Phong water puppetry sees record number of visitors in Nov

According to Pham Van Tong, Head of the Hong Phong Water Puppetry Troupe in Khuc Thua Du commune, Hai Phong city, November saw a record-high number of viewers of the troupe’s performances.

Specifically, the troupe welcomed 40 visitor groups, including 39 international ones, with more than 600 audience visits, four times higher than the same period in 2024. International visitors came from France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Poland and other countries.

This is the highest number of monthly visitors ever recorded for water puppetry.

There are several reasons behind the sharp increase in visitor numbers. Since the merger of Hai Duong province and Hai Phong city, communication and promotion efforts have been strengthened. Authorities at various levels have given support and created opportunities for troupe members to exchange expertise and gain experience.

Tour routes have been developed with stronger links between Hong Phong water puppetry and sites such as Tran temple, Trinh Xuyen communal house, Khuc Thua Du temple, as well as Con Son – Kiep Bac, Kinh Chu cave and Nham Duong pagoda.

The artisans of the Hong Phong Water Puppetry Troupe have continuously improved performance quality. Infrastructure has been upgraded, and tourism services are better meeting visitor needs.
