Diversity and high quality

Hai Phong is now the largest hub for high-tech agriculture in northern Vietnam.

In the western part of the city (formerly Hai Duong province), there are 93.5 ha of greenhouses equipped with advanced technologies cultivating various melons and leafy greens. Among them, cantaloupes stand out as a flagship product, widely distributed in major supermarkets and hotels across Vietnam.

Currently, about 15,000 ha of vegetables and 17,000 ha of fruit trees in the western region are being grown under VietGAP or GlobalGAP standards, with 1,500 ha officially certified.

Thanh Ha lychee is considered one of Hai Phong’s most iconic specialties. During the harvest season, the area draws crowds of visitors eager to explore and enjoy the fruit.

Not only famous within Vietnam, Thanh Ha lychee, with its unique appearance and flavor, has also attracted foreign buyers and tourists. Of more than 60,000 tons of Thanh Ha lychees sold in the 2025 season, 90% were exported, including to highly demanding markets such as Japan, the US, and Australia.

Hai Phong’s carrot production, averaging 63,000 tons per year, has gained a relatively stable presence in foreign markets like South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and several European countries.

In the eastern part of the city, known for its industrial parks, seaports, and tourism, over 7,000 ha are dedicated to fruit cultivation. Many areas are done under VietGAP or GlobalGAP standards, with production zones ranging from 20 to 30 ha each. Well-known local specialties include Bang La apples, Lien Khe custard apples, and Vinh Bao pear guavas.

Hai Phong now has 647 OCOP (One Commune, One Product) items, most of which are agricultural or agro-processed products.

The area of clean, high-quality agricultural production in Hai Phong is expanding. These distinctive, regionally representative crops are not only helping promote the city’s image at home and abroad but also increasing their value and contributing to a better livelihood for local farmers.

Poised for greater reach

The city Department of Agriculture and Environment is focusing on formulating and advising on programs and proposals to develop concentrated commercial agriculture.

The main goal is to shift from small-scale production to centralized farming, with increased mechanization and application of advanced technologies.

For well-established and market-recognized products, the department will recommend policies to help farmers promote their brands, broaden sales channels, improve packaging design, and enhance product value.

The department will also counsel the city on policies to support the development of high-tech agriculture tailored to Hai Phong’s potential and strengths. In the future, the city’s agricultural products will not only ensure high yields but also quality, serving both domestic consumers and export markets.

If all goes according to plan, many high-tech agricultural development policies will be adopted by Hai Phong in 2026. These will serve as a powerful boost to help the city’s famed agricultural products reach farther and fly higher.
