According to calculations by the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, the amount of petroleum currently stored at depots and retail outlets across Hai Phong is sufficient to supply the market for more than 20 days without additional replenishment.

In recent days, employees at petrol stations have been working continuously as customer demand has surged.

10 petroleum depots and 498 retail stations

Escalating tensions in the Middle East have strongly affected the global energy market, causing fuel prices to rise sharply over the past few days. According to information from the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, petroleum supply in Hai Phong remains stable, and residents should not panic or worry. The city currently has 10 petroleum depots with a total storage capacity of 467,700 cubic meters and 498 fuel retail stations. Reviews show that supply is sufficient to meet the needs of both residents and businesses.

The volume of petroleum supplied to the city’s market—including industrial production, commercial activities, transportation, and retail consumption—averages about 2,650 cubic meters per day, equivalent to 79,500 cubic meters per month. From March 2 to March 8, daily supply increased to 180–200% compared with previous days.

According to major fuel suppliers operating in the city, amid fluctuations in the petroleum market, the volume supplied to the market from March 2–8 rose to 150–160% compared with the same period previously. The increase is largely due to concerns about market instability, potential supply disruptions, and rising prices, prompting many retail traders to purchase 1.2–1.5 times their usual inventory levels.

According to Petrolimex Hai Phong and PVOIL Hai Phong, fuel consumption at their retail stations and industrial supply projects has recently risen 160–300% above normal levels. However, both companies have affirmed that they can fully ensure supply for their networks of retail outlets, distributors, and franchise partners.

Thanks to proactive stockpiling by petroleum distributors in the city, the market’s fuel supply remains secure. Current inventories at depots and retail stations in the city total 118,136 cubic meters. Based on estimates that daily demand during market fluctuations may reach about 5,035 cubic meters, existing inventories are sufficient to sustain supply for approximately 23 days without additional replenishment.

Strengthening management to keep fuel supply flowing

Market surveillance forces have stepped up inspections and supervision of operations at petrol stations.

To ensure stable petroleum supply in Hai Phong in the coming period, the People’s Committee of Hai Phong has instructed the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade to promptly advise on appropriate solutions. In case of supply difficulties, the department will report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam for guidance. The city also aims to create the most favorable conditions for fuel traders when carrying out administrative procedures related to petroleum business.

Authorities will continue directing and encouraging petroleum traders to proactively develop plans to ensure stable supply. The Market Surveillance Sub‑Department of Hai Phong has been tasked with strengthening inspections and monitoring market conditions and fuel prices across the city. Any unusual signs—such as hoarding, unjustified suspension of sales, unreasonable price increases, or selling at prices higher than the listed price, as well as other violations in petroleum and gas trading—will be promptly detected and strictly handled in accordance with the law.

The city’s People’s Committee has also assigned local authorities at commune, ward, and special zone levels to closely monitor retail fuel operations in their areas. They are responsible for promptly detecting cases where stations suspend sales, reduce business hours or supply time compared with previous schedules, fail to open stores or trading locations, or open but refuse to sell fuel without legitimate reasons. Violations will be handled under their authority or reported to competent agencies for further action in accordance with legal regulations.

Currently, petroleum supply activities in Hai Phong remain stable and normal. Retail fuel stations are operating continuously and fully meeting the consumption needs of residents. Therefore, people should not worry or rush to stockpile fuel.
