A working visit by a delegation from economic and bonded zones in Yunnan province, China marks a key step in materializing a memorandum of understanding signed between the locality and Hai Phong city.
Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority Le Trung Kien held talks with a delegation from the Honghe Comprehensive Bonded Zone and the Mengzi Economic and Technological Development Zone in Yunnan province, China on the afternoon of August 6.
Kien emphasized that this visit represented an important step in concretizing a memorandum of understanding signed by leaders of the two localities.
Hai Phong is home to two industrial parks developed by Chinese investors. Total FDI from Chinese investors in the city's industrial and economic zones has reached nearly 10 billion USD, accounting for 22% of Hai Phong’s total FDI.
Kien expressed his hope that following the signing of the cooperation agreement, the Honghe Comprehensive Bonded Zone and the Mengzi Economic and Technological Development Zone would work closely with Hai Phong and the city Economic Zone Authority to promote the standard-gauge railway project linking Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Hai Phong, enabling direct cargo transport from Yunnan to Hai Phong’s international seaport.
The two sides agreed to establish a joint task force to regularly exchange information on investment environments and preferential policies, while jointly encouraging Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Hai Phong and vice versa. Alongside investment promotion, they also pledged to strengthen cooperation in tourism and cultural exchanges.
Following its merger with Hai Duong province, Hai Phong now ranks third nationwide in economic scale. The city’s economy has sustained double-digit growth for ten consecutive years, offering vast potential and opportunities for collaboration.
After two days of field visits to deep-water ports at Lach Huyen and several industrial parks in the city, Dong Jun Yun, Deputy Director of the Honghe Bonded Zone and the Mengzi Development Zone, expressed strong impressions of Hai Phong’s dynamic development and promising prospects.
At the meeting, the city Economic Zone Authority and the Honghe–Mengzi delegation signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing on key areas of cooperation such as promoting cross-border industrial value chains and the “one enterprise, two countries, two factories” model. Both sides also agreed to appoint focal points to maintain direct communication and concretize collaborative initiatives.
