Since the beginning of summer, the city has experienced consecutive days of scorching weather, with outdoor temperatures ranging from 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, leading to surging demand for cooling appliances.

At many electronics supermarkets and appliance stores across the city, the number of customers purchasing air conditioners, electric fans and air coolers has increased significantly compared with previous weeks.

Extreme heat has driven up demand for air conditioners among Hai Phong residents since the start of summer.

On May 26, reporters from Hai Phong Newspaper and Radio and Television recorded busy shopping activity at the Mediamart store on Le Hong Phong Street in Gia Vien Ward, where many customers came to purchase cooling appliances.

Hoang Huy Duc and his colleagues from the Hai Phong Project Management Board for Construction Investment visited the store to buy air coolers for their office.

Duc said the prolonged heat had forced office fans and air conditioners to operate continuously, but cooling remained insufficient. To ensure the health of officials and employees during working hours, the agency decided to add more high-capacity air coolers.

According to Vo Thi Quynh, a department manager at Mediamart Hai Phong, sales of cooling appliances have risen sharply since mid-May, especially on days when temperatures stayed between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.

On average, the supermarket sells around 15-20 air conditioners and 20-25 electric fans each day, nearly three times higher than the previous month.

Customers are prioritizing inverter air conditioners for their energy efficiency and stable operation. Air coolers and mist fans are also selling well as they are suitable for open spaces and households seeking more affordable cooling solutions.

Besides major electronics supermarkets, many smaller appliance stores across the city have also reported strong growth in sales.

Despite rising demand, prices of cooling appliances have remained relatively stable. Suppliers prepared ample inventories ahead of the summer season, helping prevent shortages and price increases.
