Sloppy rural markets in Hai Duong have been replaced with spacious, clean, and beautiful ones following new criteria.

The enlarged Cam Hoang market creates favorable conditions for local people to do business and increase income

Cam Hoang market is located in the center of Cam Giang district.

The 2,500 m2 market is divided into separate areas with neatly arranged kiosks and sufficient ancillary works.

This is a busy trading venue of people from Cam Hoang commune and even neighboring localities.

“The market serves the shopping needs of people from many communes; hence, my shop’s sales are very stable,” said Dinh Thi Loi, a clothing trader in Cam Hoang market.

The market is fully equipped with TVs and security cameras, reassuring traders there, Loi added.

It was very difficult for trading in An Binh commune, Nam Sach district, in the past for lack of a market.

The commune authorities proposed the construction of a market in An Dong hamlet during new-style rural building to serve locals’ demands, which was approved by the district authorities.

The market was built in 2016 and renovated and enlarged in 2019, covering an area of over 3,100 m2 with more than 80 kiosks, electricity, water, toilets, fire protection and fighting equipment, etc.

“People used to encroach on roadways and sidewalks to sell goods, making traffic unsafe,” said Vice Chairman of the An Binh commune People's Committee Truong Phuc Thuc, who is also head of the market management board.

“The market provides them with a stable and spacious place to do business.

“The living standards of many households in the commune have improved as a result of business development.”

Rural commercial infrastructure in the province was underdeveloped before the National Target Program on New-style Rural Building but has bloomed in recent years thanks to the determination of authorities and sectors at all levels.

The Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Department of Planning and Investment to appraise dossiers and propose the provincial People’s Committee to support the renovation and upgrading of 39 markets in 11 out of 12 district units in the province with more than 19.4 billion VND from 2014 to 2020, according to the Commercial Management Division under the Department of Industry and Trade.

Many local authorities also had policies to call on units and individuals to invest in market construction.

As a result, the rural market network completely changed.

Most of rural markets in the province are permanent or semi-permanent with solidified floors and standardized drainage systems.

Attention is increasingly paid to fire prevention, environmental protection, and food safety and hygiene.

Thereby, numerous traders and people have been attracted to doing business at markets, contributing to helping local people expand trade, promoting product consumption, and better serving locals’ lives.
